Though it happened this year, my trip to Indonesia seems like a million months ago.
I distinctly remember planning a few months in advance to ensure my trip to Indonesia included UNESCO World Heritage favorites such as this one in Borobudur. I simply can’t believe that here I am recounting my experiences already. Time surely flies when you’re having fun!

“I planned a few months in advance to ensure my trip to Indonesia included UNESCO World Heritage favorites such as this one in Borobudur.”
“Time surely flies when you’re having fun!”
I learned through my travels here that 300 years before Angkor Wat in Cambodia came in existence, Borobudur was the Buddhist pilgrim destination for the Tibetans, Chinese, Indians and Cambodians.
About a couple of million volcanic rocks were joined together to form the temple and it took approximately seventy-five years to build.
As I adore learning about different cultures and seeing exotic historical architecture, Borobudur was definitely one of the top sites I looked forward to seeing on my trip to Indonesia.
Some tips that might interest those of you who would want to stopover this monument include waking up early to see the sun rising between the two great volcanoes of Merapi and Merbabu, walking all the levels and studying the carvings (locals believe this is the path to enlightenment), or going straight to the top to enjoy the view and then do the levels on your way down.
Going to Bali? I truly recommend making the detour. A brief and economical air fare combined with a couple of days in Jogjakarta on a hotel near the monument in Central Java will give you a gem of an adventure to hold dear and cherish forever.
