With my sister in town, I wanted to take her somewhere that is unique to Los Angeles while displaying the spectacular views of the city. The Getty Center quickly came to mind. I’ve always been enamored by its architecture.
Upon arriving, we rode the famous Getty Center Tram that took us from the parking lot atop a hill where The J. Paul Getty Museum was. The experience was lovely as the ride provided some amazing views of the hills surrounding the museum, as well as the Los Angeles skyline. It was the perfect day to go up there as it was clear enough to see the Pacific Ocean.
We were impressed with the labyrinth of gardens, ornamental fountains, babbling brooks and modern outdoor sculptures amidst manicured lawns. It was such a tranquil place that we wanted to just sit in the cafe and read a book.
Upon exploring The Getty Museum, we discovered works from Van Gogh, Monet and Cezanne. It is also known for its amazing collection of contemporary art.
We ventured on to the seasonal exhibit by Herb Ritts: LA Style. He revolutionized fashion photography, modernized the nude, and transformed celebrities into icons. Some of his displayed memorable photographs were of Richard Gere, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Cindy Crawford, and Naomi Campbell. It was super fun! We even had the chance to view his collection of Music Videos that were popular in the 90’s.
Seeing the view of the Pacific while at The Getty inspired us to grab a bite by the beach. We decided to try an island style Cuban/Caribbean restaurant called Cha Cha Chicken in Santa Monica.
The ambiance was fun! It was a colorful beach shack-looking restaurant serving a delicious blend of Caribbean flavours. The place has a welcomed authentic Caribbean feel with outdoor seating. It was very reminiscent of my trip to Miami a year ago where I indulged in a variety of Caribbean & Cuban food.
We ordered the Coconut Fried Chicken, Jerk Shrimp Plate and Jerk Chicken Enchiladas. We also ordered the mango guava and the cantaloupe juice which were refreshing, ripe, and fresh.
Although the food looked promising, I probably will not go here again. It isn’t as tasty as other Caribbean restaurants I’ve been. However, you can’t go wrong with a cute little restaurant steps away from beautiful Santa Monica beach.
