We spent the most stunning sunny day in Prague a few months back enjoying a warm and breezy morning walk across Prague unto lunch with river views by the beautiful Charles Bridge.
As it approached lunch time, we saw an alluring restaurant whose terrace patio overlooked the majestic Vltava River and Charles Bridge.

What a location! We walked over to this lovely restaurant called Hergetova Cihelna and was greeted by Pavrina. We requested to be seated at the iconic terrace and were wonderfully placed there, right next to the water. What a gorgeous view. It was so peaceful – all I heard were the birds and the water flowing through the river. To get further into the captivating ambiance, I ordered fresh orange juice and my husband ordered a refreshing local pilsner.
The menu at Hergetova Cihelna looked fantastic. Since we were right next to the water, I was in the mood for some seafood. I ordered a delicious fish soup which has halibut, blue mussels, salmon and root vegetables. My husband wanted something very local so he got the fluffy Czech dumplings with roast beef garnished with hoisin sauce, pickled cucumbers and scallions. The fish soup was so fresh and had an incredible amount of toppings. The halibut and salmon were so chunky and pure with its natural flavor. The broth was creamy and refreshing. The dumplings came in and it reminded me of tacos given its presentation. They were two dumplings held up by a taco holder, essentially. The dumplings were so fluffy, no surprise given the name of the dish. The roast beef and toppings went wonderfully well.
For mains, I wanted to continue my seafood journey so I ordered the baked pike perch with Czech dark beer sauce, bean ragout, savoy cabbage, and croquettes. The fish fillet looked so good with its light and crispy exterior. The fish had quite a crunch along with the croquettes. However, the kicker was the dark beer sauce and bean ragout which really made the dish explode with magnificent flavor. Overall, the dish was very tasty, with a nice fun balance between soft and crunchy.
My husband had a Svíčková from leg of venison with creamy root vegetable sauce, Carlsbad dumplings, and cranberries. It was a very soft and beefy venison. The sauce further accentuates the venison meat and texture. The dumplings on the side were simply pleasant and sets the stage for the venison to wonderfully dance on one’s palette. This was a hearty meal, no complaints from my husband certainly!
Taking pleasure in the waterside view of Charles Bridge while having dessert here at Hergetova Cihelna is surely something to relish in. We took joy into a delightful soft chocolate cake with salted caramel ice cream, apricot puree, and pistachio crumble. Also to share was a selection of Czech cheese, apple chutney and flat bread. The cake introduces a solid chocolate flavor without being too rich or sweet. The salted caramel ice cream was very much sought for given the warm day. All in all a great solid dessert combo with the puree and pistachio crumble. We slowed down while munching on the rich variety of cheese served in an exquisite platter as it was a wonderful conversational dish. The moment got even better as we slowly worked through the four different kinds of cheese – a delicious classic – as we fleetingly looked around taking in the majestic beauty of Prague.
