On my recent trip to Hawaii, I was so amazed by how nature played a large role on style trends. I captured this image of a recreation of authentic Aotearoa tribal wear while visiting the Polynesian Cultural Center in Oahu’s North Shore.
Have you noticed how the rich tribal patterns and ethnic shapes are so big this Spring? Fashion statements inspired by nature have been showing up everywhere on the runways, from New York to Milan. Designers have included these iconic bold prints in feel-good earth tones for spring 2012.
Inspired by these natural styles, I decided to wear an aztec jumpsuit by the beach. The undeniable mix of earthy colors and geometric patterns are tribal in theory.
I accessorized my tribal romper from Tilly’s with ethnic jewelry. The vibe is cool and fun. Tribal and ethnic patterned fashion usually consists of lots of embellishment like beads and sequins, especially around the neckline. Texture is important in tribal style while mixing it up a bit with wood, metallic and beaded items create additional depth.
It is fitting that style is inspired by natural beauty. The perception that fashion is completely man-made is simply not true.
