Stunning as it may seem, an experience in Notre Dame in Paris can be as divine and spiritual as you might expect, or downright chaotic and disorderly.
If you’re a first timer, it is necessary to recall that this is quite possibly one of the most famous cathedrals in the world. There is no entrance fee but there will be massive crowds. It is critical to arrive early, as you’ll want to go around the entire interior to see all of the stained glass, most especially the south rose window.
As I mentioned on my “Beginners Guide to Paris”, pickpockets are everywhere in the city, including the Notre Dame. You must always be on guard and alert even inside the church. If you’d like to go up to the bell tower for a unique vantage point of the city, like most churches in Europe, it will have a small fee. There are no restrooms inside the cathedral. Truthfully, we decided to have dinner nearby in order to use the restaurant’s restroom facilities as a public one was hard to come by.

If you’re Catholic, the best advice I can honestly give is to time your visit during mass times. If you arrive for the service, you have first priority at the entrance gate over other non-Catholic visitors. The mass could be in French, but truthfully, that is what is great with the Catholic mass as the liturgy is the same all over the world. I mean, when else are you going to have a genuine, enlightening cultural and sacred experience at such a historical place such as this? I went on my first trip to France and checked that off my Christian bucket list. I genuinely believe that people of faith have the power to inspire so many people. Make your dreams, passions, and faith a reality when traveling to the Notre Dame in Paris!
