I’m on to my final Tenerife destination hideaway and I simply just can’t believe how Tenerife is just a haven for foodies.

Tucked along the southwestern coast is the quiet fishing village of La Caleta, Salitre Restaurant whose name translates to “grain of sand”, features a pleasant and scenic view of the coast.  In this quaint place, swimming off the rocks, allowing for jumping in or diving off is its main draw.  There are some strategic iron ladders that make it convenient to get out of the crystal clear ocean which is great for those who would like to snorkel.

The first plate that came was warm bread with a selection of three of Salitre’s iconic sauces: Paprika, Coriander, and Calamari sauce. These dressings were fantastic and were extremely addicting. According to Domingo, they can be used to mix with other dishes throughout the meal. They will happily provide more once any of the sauces run out. My husband’s face lit up. I’m not surprised. He always enjoys his meals whenever there is a flurry of saucy flavors involved.

Our first appetizer was the fish fillet with caramelized onion and king prawn. This was quite the hearty appetizer. The caramelized onion went superb with the fish and prawn. The bread was crisp yet not too hard where it would be difficult to eat.  It was an ideal size.

The second appetizer was the salmon tartare with avocado marinated in dry white wine from Lanzarote, another exotic island in the Canaries. We haven’t been there yet but we would love to! The salmon tartare was very soft and gentle to the tongue. It seemed to crumble lightly while the avocado provided a gentle taste of additional freshness. The textures between the two just mesh so splendidly together. The three sauces on the side went impeccably with the dish. My husband’s favorite is the coriander for this dish while I like it with the paprika sauce.

Our third appetizer was the steamed clams’ Galician cockles. This was also marinated in dry wine dry from Lanzarote. The flavor of this dish just explodes with goodness inside our mouths. We were immediately impressed with the vigor and freshness of this dish.  We didn’t even want to add any of dressing from the side so that we can take in the full experience of the clams. This is quite a wonderful dish.

Our fourth appetizer was the fresh Canarian goat cheese with grilled Canarian Papas Bonitas with Palma honey on the cheese. This dish was enjoyably light and flavorful. The slight crispy texture from the toasted part was wonderful. The wine they paired this with was magnificent. Their side sauces also complimented the potatoes. I laughed so hard when I saw my husband just trying each of the sauces throughout his meal.

In preparation for our mains, we received some lemon sorbet to cleanse the palette and a brilliant, sparkling glass of Rose.    We shared our mains as it was huge! The Risotto with king prawn looked incredible when it arrived! Garnished with a variety of seafood, we see clams, prawns, King Prawns, and white fish. It was awe-inspiringly delicious and felt heavy since there is a whole lot of risotto. I must say that this was definitely worth the calories with the amount of flavor and goodness in this dish.

Since we were full, we decided to share a delectable lemon cream for dessert which featured a good balance between tarty and sweet while featuring a wonderfully smooth texture. It had a fun presentation as it was served in a martini glass. Served chilled in a frosted mini wine glass to match our dessert, the dessert wine that was paired with it was equally very pleasing.
