A city in Italy that I’ve been dreaming about for so long is undoubtedly the charming, medieval city of Siena.
Fresh from seeing the delightful “Letters to Juliet” for the very first time which had a scene that was filmed in Siena, my husband and I traveled to this quaint town right after our revitalizing experience at the extraordinary Terme di Saturnia in Tuscany. Passing through the peaks and valleys of the enamoring wine region of Chianti Classico and unto to the alluring hilltop village of Siena, we could honestly say that this road trip was engrossing and undeniably enchanting.

“Within its medieval, fortified walls, Siena is exquisite in its simplicity.”
As we stroll through the twisting alleys around Siena’s historic central plaza, we couldn’t help but feel so smitten with the beauty of its Piazza del Campo and the Duomo of Santa Maria Assunta. How we wish we could go back here for the famous Palio di Siena, a wonderful historical parade that takes place through the city streets where locals dress in medieval costumes and ride horses.
Our visit here was a true pilgrimage. We visited the Church of San Domenico, site of the preserved mummified head of the revered Saint Catherine of Siena near the beautiful and most ancient fountain of Siena. Famous for her mystical visions and for being one of the doctors of the Church, I find her story compelling. To me, she is a true example of a modern day saint.
We felt a sense of peace and comfort in this genuine Italian sanctuary while we reveled in the beauty of its ancient pathways and brick buildings. Within its medieval, fortified walls, Siena is exquisite in its simplicity. On a spirited and sunny day like today, it exudes the most perfect and loveliest way to enjoy the beauty of Tuscany.
Siena, Tuscany | The historic centre of Siena, renowned for its medieval brick buildings, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is among Italy’s most fascinating strolling grounds.
