Out of all the UNESCO World Heritage Sites my husband and I have been to, Volcan El Teide has got to be one of our most favorite from the list.
Mesmerized by the Teide-Pico Viejo stratovolcano, at 3,718 meters high, it is the topmost summit of Spain and the world’s third tallest.

Truly our road trip around Tenerife is proving to be one of our most memorable ones yet. As we continued on to the path that took us to Teide National Park, a sea of clouds arose from our viewpoint and we realized that we are so high up that we were driving right through the skies! The natural splendor of Teide is due to the ever-changing atmospheric conditions. We even remember seeing the peak of the volcano towering above the clouds from the plane and now that we’ve arrived, we simply cannot contain our excitement.
Unique rock formations sprouting from the ground exuding a majestic feel greeted us shortly thereafter. The crimson colors of the environment set a dramatic mood as if we had just landed on Mars. The vibe of Teide National Park was unlike any other which says a lot because I’ve been to similar spectacular geological spots such as Sedona in Arizona and the Red Rocks of Nevada, but in terms of exceptional beauty and the way you arrive unto it emerging from above the clouds is exclusive to this place.
The Canaries being an island geographically located in the continent of Africa makes it extraordinarily rare and inimitable. Lush African cactus, flora and fauna seem to sprout out of the auburn soil like perfect blossoms thriving amongst the remarkable desert-like environment near the peak of the Vulcan. No words can describe the mighty and impressive Mount Teide that magnificently dazzles at the center of these untouched grounds. The extravagant form of the volcano is astonishing to see in real life – magnificent and brilliant in its simplicity yet full of depth and character in its oddity and eccentricity.
The uprightness and strength that Mt. Teide emits in its vibe and long-standing reputation is enough to elicit admiration from travelers. A moment of silence to stare at its incredible beauty is truly necessary when encountering a breathtaking giant like this one. Teide is particularly important to the world. A major site in volcanology, it stands as proof of the geological headway that reinforce the development of oceanic islands.
Rich and diverse in its mature volcanic features, my husband and I marveled at it for hours. There are so many changing sceneries in the area and the views as you ascend and descend are incredible. Signs of past lava flow and astonishing rock formations are also visible while some parts definitely feel like you are walking on the red planet. A great place to see whether you’re with family, friends, as a couple or even a solo traveler, Teide is a fantastic excursion that provides a variety of diverse vistas and landscapes that is truly stunning and sublime.
