Tips on Mixing Patterns

0

I was flipping through several magazines during the weekend and noticed several editorials on mixing patterns and prints. Flowers, lace, nautical stripes, and animal prints certainly received a lot of attention. Well, I guess it’s time to stuff the monochromatic outfit in the closet.

I admit, mixing patterns are quite challenging. I found that with these helpful tips, we will be able to conquer half the trickiness of mixing patterns.

Layer your patterns
A fresh, feminine blazer dressed over an equally pretty, floaty outfit.

Look for patterns that complement each other.
Stripes and leopard print fit together, as do floral and stripes or even polka dots and gingham.

Mix Patterns Like A Pro

Don’t go too overboard
Mixing patterns is supposed to be enjoyable! Although it can look cool, don’t go hardcore with a head-to-toe outfit all in in one pattern. No floral on floral or stripes on stripes.

Include neutrals in your outfit
Pieces with the similar color palette — like this white-based blazer and dress — play effortless as one.

Work the fun accessories
Accessories are your friends when mixing patterns. When done right, they balance the outfit. Classic white pearls go well with this white-based ensemble.  It is easy to go overboard with accessories so be cautious. Remember the focus of the outfit is the pattern, not the accessories. Additionally, go neutral on shoes, belt & handbag.

I believe that the confidence and knowledge to achieve a good pattern over pattern look is half the battle. Know yourself and the prints you adore then wear it confidently!  No one knows your personal style better than yourself, after all!
