One of the most picturesque resorts I got the pleasure to stay in is the Viceroy Bali in Indonesia. It is so wonderfully unique as it is perched on top of the Petanu river gorge.
I arrived in this alluringly quaint resort a few months ago on my very first holiday in the island of Bali. With a long relaxing breath of air, I engulfed Viceroy Bali’s panoramic views with the most delightful of disposition. I have a certain fondness for island destinations with a great deal of character and culture and Viceroy Bali in Ubud was certainly rich of those things. The hotel, sitting atop this historic village, was a site where Balinese royalty once made their homes. Staying here has been a thrilling and exhilarating experience for me. The Valley of the Kings, as the locals would call it, was going to be my view for the next several days and I was delirious with enthusiasm.

Here I am reveling on what was going to be my first impressions of the hotel. Just taking a feel of the grounds, sitting down to relax and basking under this Balinese sun…I was in paradise.
The architecture of the resort was breathtaking as it was educational. Here, I learned that the people in Bali had a magnificent natural talent in wood and stone carvings. Walking around, the resort had an ancient ruin feel with modern and luxurious amenities. It still amazes me, to this day, that lush and abundant greenery on one part of the world looks completely unique and different in another. Ubud’s rainforest district was so close to my hotel in Bali that it gave me exuberant feelings of careless calm, as if being so close to nature was the elixir for a harmonious and peaceful life.
I’d define my personal style as being polished and urban, yet I found Viceroy Bali with the kind of luxurious elegance that is both rustic chic and classic. I could imagine myself coming back here in 10 years and I would most likely still find its interiors polished and relevant.
The hotel’s infinity pool gives off sublime views that are so iconic of Ubud in Bali. Call it love at first sight but I may have left my heart here as I laid back poolside in a traditional Balinese balé (gazebo) as its romantic soft white curtains framed my heartening mood.
Gardens have a way of elevating my state of mind and Viceroy Bali’s oasis, with its cultivated plants and flowers, was immaculate and flawless. My love affair with Viceroy Bali has just started. Stay tuned to see further snapshots of my gorgeous villa and the remainder of my memorable stay.
