A scene of paradise in the sparkling waters of the Mediterranean, Naxos Island is famous for being one of the few islands in Greece that could feed itself.
A delightful little gem of a hotel we stayed in during our Greek Islands tour is Lagos Mare.
Its poolside is a sight to behold and will truly make one feel like in complete rest and relaxation. Laid back on a lounge chair next to the pool, the peaceful breeze in this lush island allows for a true simmer down.
I feel like a celebration is necessary whenever one reaches the Greek islands. Nothing can ever replace the view of the turquoise blue of the Aegean Sea! Seeing Greece’s radiant beauty is awe-inspiring and calls for a blowout every single time. Truly, the Greek Islands are some of my favorite island destinations in the world.
Naxos is a vibrant place – one that will surely entice one’s appetite after a long day of exploring. 1924 Restaurant by Lagos Mare is one of the islands’ finest. Be sure to pass by on your visit.

From the lounge chair, we got up and sat at our poolside table. Our first course was an interesting salted cheesecake and an octopus carpaccio, an interesting take as an appetizer.
The salted cheesecake is served with goat’s cheese, carob, olive oil, thyme, cherry tomatoes confit and crispy prosciutto. This course is a solid starter full of flavor and textures.
The octopus carpaccio are accentuated with oranges and pine nuts. The octopus was thinly sliced and beautifully distributed across the plate. The flavors and textures are primarily from the orange and pine nuts which blended in well with the octopus. This is a remarkably refreshing dish. Octopus is just simply a Greek classic.
For the main course, we opted for pork chop and fresh local fish. The pork chop is served with tomato lemon and oil, baby potatoes, cherry tomatoes and deconstructed garlic bread.
The pork chop was so soft and perfectly cooked. It was not dry whatsoever and filled with richness throughout. Apparently, the potatoes and pork are all local here in Naxos.
The fresh fish featured was herb-crusted sea bass served with lime risotto and villa greens. This fish is light and soft while the risotto contributes most of the flavor without overpowering the fish.
This plate is a wonderful culinary experience in Naxos. The greens on this dish came from Lagos Mare Hotel’s garden, freshly picked when needed. A perfect farm-to-table dish!
For dessert, a chocolate cheesecake with Greek coffee and limoncello is a unique choice. A delightful dessert, it is a one-of-a-kind choice exclusive to 1924 Restaurant.
There are two chefs and in particular, Chef Dimitris Skarmoutsos had the honor of being a Master Chef’s judge. It is his duty to design the menu and provides guidance to Lagos Mare’s onsite chef.
A culinary gastronomy paired with the warmth of a good home cooked meal, 1924 by Lagos Mare is a Greek Island institution and an icon of Naxos for almost a century.
