Chevron and Chalk

3

I was at the Pasadena Chalk Festival this past weekend wearing one of my favorite prints this season:  Chevron.  This inverted V-shaped pattern has been the craze all year and more so now that summer has officially arrived.

Pasadena Chalk Festival

Every Father’s Day, local artists gather at the Paseo Colorado in Pasadena to showcase their exquisite chalk art on the floor.  Although there were tons of artwork, I couldn’t help but be drawn to the portraits.  To me, there’s just something more apparent and absorbing as the natural beauty of one’s face.  The eyes, in particular, can be so transparent.  It’s amazing how without even having any dialogue with a person, our eyes can reveal our desires and even the nature of our souls.  It’s not a surprise that the expression “the eyes are the window to your soul” is so well-known.

There was live music heard throughout the Paseo and there were tons of people walking around.  I was truly impressed with the pictures drawn by the artists.  It’s amazing how such beautiful works of art can totally ignore, or even further compliment the rough and inconsistent texture of the floor.  I could tell that their art represented something memorable in their lives or was dedicated to somebody special.  It is amazing to see how something or someone can move a person so deeply that it is transformed to something as beautiful as art!

All in all, I had a marvelous time.  Another great day spent in one of my favorites cities.  I was certainly touched by the photos.  If there was anything that day that I took home with me, it was that to always remember that sometimes, the eyes can say it all and can be a great communicator. :)

The Pasadena Chalk Festival is also a benefit for the community arts program of LIGHT BRINGER PROJECT, a Pasadena-based cultural arts organization that has served Los Angeles County since 1990.
