Walking into this delightful family owned restaurant was like a mythical dream!
Nestled in a quiet lakeside neighborhood of Bled, the gardens of Penzion Berc felt like one was being magically conveyed to enchanting Hobbiton, a movie setting from the fascinating film Lord of the Rings!
Our server, Asmir, showed us to our table and happily told us some fun facts about the Finefood Penzion Berc. I can’t even begin to explain how cute and cozy the surroundings here are. It’s genuinely reminiscent of a fairy tale.
Penzion Berc’s owner’s great-grandfather bought this land in 1908 and developed some farms in the area. Now, the farmhouse have been renovated into modern rooms and serves as a quaint hotel in charming Bled.
The restaurant first opened its doors on June 2014 and experienced quick growth as a result of its outdoor BBQ, lovely home-cooked meals prepared as naturally as possible, with no additives!
Finefood Penzion Berc is known to be the Eden of authenticity in Lake Bled. I recommend sitting by the lawn whilst enjoying the beautiful sunlight and whimsical atmosphere of Finefood Berc. The first taster came… a fanciful tuna spread served on refreshing sliced cucumbers. It was a gentle yet delectable introduction to the restaurant.
A bread basket was served which had a variety of seeded brown and yellow bread. The yellow bread was so incredibly pleasing to taste and reminds me of a delicious pound cake without the extra sweetness. Yum!
The first course served featured salmon in red beet marinade with spawn. It was paired with a glass of Cigoj Malvazija wine. This plate is apparently a Slovenian national dish.
The sides presented a choice: It can be enjoyed with the crunchy biscuit or with the somewhat pickled pear. It’s always lovely to revel in a dish in multiple ways. I adore this dish!
The next course was a filled potato pasta with duck and duck crackers. This was a dish one will truly take pleasure in. It has a feel-at-home essence which emanates that wonderful aroma of warmth and joy. The wine accentuates the emotions of comfort. It is so legitimately interesting how a dish can achieve this!
The main course consists of two beef medallions served with dried pears, parsley cream, game sauce and buckwheat dough stuffed with cottage cheese. This plate was paired with a stunning glass of Modra Frankinja wine. The red wine featured fruity raspberry and melon slice making it quite festive to drink.
This was such an invigorating meal! The pairing really made the experience exhilarating all while the beef medallions and sides exuded heartiness and hearth.
For dessert, they served a traditional Berceva cream cake uniquely by deconstructing the cream cake using the same traditional ingredients. This was a solid conclusion to a very traditional and heartfelt meal.
If you are seeking a classical yet revivifying cuisine in Lake Bled, Finefood Berc is a fresh choice. One can easily tell with the environment as the restaurant was full of people enjoying the alluring food, graceful service, and charismatic atmosphere. I recommend booking ahead as the restaurant is quite popular, well deserved too!
