Luscious L’Osteria Wine Bar

7

Quaint ambiance and delicious food has always been the antidote to anything!

In all truth, this is most certainly a basis as to why traveling has been part of my lifestyle for as long as I can remember.  Even as a child, my family and I would not hesitate to go up an instantaneous trip to the mountains or the beaches over the weekend – whenever we feel like it.  It always reinvigorated us and we were lucky to have a destination to retreat to whenever we feel a need to revitalize.

I’d like to believe I keep that spirit of adventure alive to this day.  Today’s exploits took me in the middle of hiking up a hill, in an island at the South Aegean Sea, amidst a historic old town, dining “under the stars” in a most memorable wine bar called L’Osteria.

A fun fact about me is that Italian cuisine is quite possibly one of my favorite cuisines of all time.  I have yet to meet an Italian dish I didn’t like… and believe me, I have tasted a great deal.  Exploits for this blog took me from Milan to Sicily, all of which can be found on this link here.

Word on the street is that L‘Osteria Wine Bar serves the freshest fish. True to its reputation, it is a quaint family owned little jewel of a place in the middle of precious Naxos Town. With a Sicilian chef in the family, the strong emotions she had for authentic Sicilian food heated up her eagerness in bringing a greater variety of food in the island of Naxos in Greece.

It was nice for L’Osteria Wine Bar to devote a page for their vegan clientele.  In proper Mediterranean fusion, their menu features a slew of Sicilian and Naxian specials tailor-made everyday depending on what is fresh.

Two appetizers were brought in the table as a delightful starter to our starry Naxian night.  The first plate was a swordfish carpaccio with mozzarella burrata and poppy seeds.

The swordfish was sliced thinly but the flavor was so rich and fresh while having a soft delicate texture. Mingled with the enormous burrata cheese, the combination was simply amazing.  The olive oil drizzled on the swordfish helped bring out the vigor and novelty factor of the fish.

The next appetizer was the black truffle Naxian Graviera Cheese, a kind of cheese produced in various parts of Greece, with truffle honey. This appetizer was marvelous! Everything was so flavorful. The truffle honey that will change your life is called the Dolcezza al tartufo estivo a base di miele d’acacia honey.

The sweetness of the acacia honey with truffle was impeccable. What a perfect conversational divine dish. There were so many flavorful cheese slices in the plate they served. If you are a truffle and cheese lover {who isn’t?}, no doubt you will fall in love with this starter! This appetizer was also served with wine and the experience was absolutely flawless.

For mains, L’Osteria Wine Bar prepared linguine with fresh basil pesto and pine nuts. The linguine was such a stimulating dish. I really enjoyed the light basil with pine nuts garnished everywhere. What an invigorating pasta, so exhilarating to savor!

The other main was a spicy orange crispy breaded gilt-head sea bream fillet with couscous timbale. The sea bream was exquisite as it was embellished with enjoyable spices and light breading. The soft fish was ornamented with the thin crunchy crust that highlight a wonderful burst of orange flavor. The play between the orange and lemon is prevalent in Sicilian-style cooking.

It was enhanced with white sauce on the side, which added a very light tarty kick to the fish.  The cous cous had small pieces of orange zest which introduced a really nice flavoring.

For dessert, we had the luscious Sicilian chocolate and pistachio cannoli. L’Osteria Wine Bar definitely has the best Sicilian cannoli with ricotta in the island!  The taste brought me back to the time I journeyed to Palermo.  What an indulgence to relish it here in Greece! It was sumptuous and enticing to the taste.

The very crunchy shell was wonderful and it was filled with ricotta cheese cream covered with chocolate with one side and pistachio on the other. Every bite was as fantastic as it sounds!

L‘Osteria Wine Bar served Sicilian sweet wonderful vino too!  Needless to say, the entire evening was the perfect culmination of complete Naxian and Sicilian bliss!
