A true institution in Naxos, one can hear and feel the energetic and positive vibe surrounding Scirocco Restaurant. Truly, this is the place to enjoy authentic Naxian cuisine and hospitality from a Naxian family.

Our time here felt like we were a guest in someone’s household as the owners play the good host brilliantly. It quickly started to really feel that way, like we just stepped into his home in the middle of a family party.

We were graciously welcomed with garlic and thyme bread shortly after sitting down. The bread was incredibly delicious as it was hot and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It’s one of those really addicting starters that you just can’t stop taking a bite off.

We also tried their strawberry shake since we walked quite a bit around town in the afternoon. Sitting under the stars on a summer night in Greece, we wanted something refreshing and cold.  The night was young and their smoothie and shake hit the spot. It was cooling and rejuvenating!

The first starter came featuring the Greek Saganaki with Naxian hard cheese garnished with thyme and black sesame. They also served delicious Greek zucchini balls with tzatziki.

The Saganaki and Naxian cheese were absolutely amazing.  Naxian cheese is so exciting and tasteful that highlights a unique dense texture. The honey was a big crowd puller as it complemented the cheese prominently.

The zucchini balls were wonderfully delectable. With the tzatziki at play, it was luscious and appetizing. What a great start on a lovely night in Greece!

For our mains, we were served the octopus stifado and the kokinisto beef. The servings were huge and really evoked a family-like ambiance. It was just so generous and hearty. The way people interact with each other, with the customers and even people passing by, just exuded a close familial environment. Many of their clients come back time and again as it has become their guest’s tradition to dine here whenever they visit Naxos.

The octopus stifado was richly relished with pearl onions, sweet red wine, tomato and bay leaves. The octopus had so much flavor while having the fresh smooth texture. This was such an amazing dish…. and it came with rice!

The kokinisto beef was served in an enticing sauce with fresh tomatoes and red wine. The beef was very tender and soft. Eating this with spaghetti was a delightful experience. It was such a vigorous dish.

For dessert, we shared a Portokalopita which was a traditional Greek homemade orange pie with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. The owner’s mother made this exuberant revivifying pie. The orange zest was certainly evident and stimulating. The cake was exquisite and moist. A gratifying dessert that is ambrosial and divine.

Scirocco is a lovely and convivial place to enjoy an authentic Naxian cuisine. Located at the heart of Naxos town, it is surely hard to miss!
